Announced as part of the BMW Group Malaysia House of Forwardism event in Kuala Lumpur that opens to the public this September 23 to 24, 2023 is the Charge Go mobile electric vehicle charging solution introduced in partnership with Gentari.

Aimed at addressing range anxiety and charging availability concerns among EV users, the specially-outfitted Proton Exora units for this purpose contain a 30 kWh battery pack, and is capable of output up to 30 kW DC, with CCS2 or CHADeMO connections.

On display at the event that is located at the open car park area outside Mandarin Oriental, the pair of Proton Exora mobile charging vehicles are each here in a white-and-blue scheme and a yellow-and-black scheme for the BMW and MINI brands, respectively.

As with the initial release of details in May for the service provided by Gentari this year, Charge Go has three Exora mobile charging units, and a fourth that is a converted Toyota Hiace with a 60 kW battery pack, also with up to 30 kW of output.

Pricing and areas of availability are still works in progress, however BMW Group Malaysia says that the mobile EV charging fleet will initially consist of four mobile charger vehicles, and which will be rolled out later this year, with exact dates to be confirmed.

A Gentari subsidiary, Charge Go began as a pilot project for a mobile charging solution for electric vehicles aimed at businesses, and to offer a means of keeping EVs charged when they are deployed for prolonged running in applications such as events and trade shows.

Meanwhile for existing EV charging locations, BMW Group Malaysia has today also introduced an unlimited EV charging package with ChargEV, JomCharge and Gentari for owners of BMW and MINI electric vehicles in Malaysia.

These can be purchased by BMW owners at RM2,400 or RM1,800 for MINI owners, offering unlimited charging at all ChargEV, JomCharge and ChargEV facilities nationwide for 12 months from date of activation. Each of these packages will be valid only for the vehicle registered to the package.

The MIIT images show an RS-badged model that looks pretty much identical to the US-bound variant, sporting a closed front grille with integrated main beam lights and a rear diffuser, as well as several video cameras which will presumably be used for a 360-degree view on the infotainment system.

Furthermore, there are blind spot visual alerts embedded in the side mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, a two-piece sunroof, and two color variants for the roof itself: the same as the body or black.

The dimensions of the upcoming zero-emissions crossover are also in the government filings, with the Equinox EV measuring 190 inches (4,845 millimeters) long, 75 in (1,913 in) wide, and 65 inches (1,644 mm) tall, which means it’s 3 in longer and 1.1 in taller than the Tesla Model Y, while the width is 0.6 in smaller than the Tesla-branded EV.

Pricing-wise, the Chevy Equinox EV is expected to become one of the most affordable battery-powered vehicles in the United States when it arrives at dealerships this fall, with the entry-level 1LT variant expected to cost around $30,000, according to General Motors.

In China, the model is manufactured by SAIC-GM, whereas the US-bound units are being assembled at the Ramos Arizpe factory in Mexico alongside the Honda Prologue, with the first units rolling off the line back in June, according to a post on X.

Five trim levels will be available in America, the first of which – 2RS – will arrive at dealerships this fall with a GM-estimated range of up to 300 miles for the front-wheel drive variant, 20–inch wheels, and a heated flat-bottom steering wheel.

All the other versions (1LT, 2LT, 3LT, and 3RS) will become available in the spring of next year with a minimum GM-estimated range of 250 miles for the base 1LT with FWD. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but we expect GM to offer more details when the model officially goes on sale in the coming weeks.

In related news, a petition signed by about 600 EV drivers is asking the American automaker not to ditch the entry-level Equinox, citing the fact that GM dropped the most affordable variant of the Chevrolet Blazer EV which was supposed to have a base price of around $45,000, thus setting a precedent for the potential disappearance of the entry-level Equinox EV.

A few weeks ago, we saw the AMG 63 variant of the CLE for the first time and this new prototype looks almost identical. It wears its production body and lights and it appears that there are rectangular exhaust pipes at the back, which hints this is indeed the 63 guise and not the less powerful 53 model. Interestingly, the weird wheel setup of the previous prototype is gone for this test car, which has a set of multi-spoke alloys.

The big mystery regarding the new CLE 63 is what will be under the hood. As a reminder, the CLE 450 4Matic has an inline-six engine and it would be strange if the top-tier AMG model gets a smaller engine. The C63 has a hybridized four-cylinder mill generating 671 horsepower and 752 pound-feet. And while those are solid numbers for a performance coupe, it just doesn’t feel right to have a smaller engine in the range-topping model.

Alternatively, Mercedes-AMG could install a new plug-in hybrid powertrain based on the 3.0-liter engine. It is believed that a similar setup will debut with the upcoming E63 family, where it could produce over 700 horsepower thanks to electric support. Whether that powertrain will find its way in the new CLE 63, it remains to be seen.

There’s another answer that needs to be answered – when the performance coupe will debut. There’s no official information but our educated guess is that we will see the model in the first half of next year with sales probably starting around the third quarter of 2024 as a 2025 model.

Leading mechanic Scotty Kilmer has warned petrol and diesel drivers could “destroy” vital car parts after making a simple error on their driveways.

The YouTube star urged road users to take extra precautions when washing their car at home.

He said motorists should never wash the inside of their vehicles and specifically the engine bay with a powerful pressure washer.

Kilmer warned the high-pressure water could damage electrical connectors and vital parts such as the alternator.

Instead, road users should leave the engine bay dirty as this makes no difference to the vehicle’s overall performance.

Kilmer told his channel: “Today I’m trying to show you how pressure washers are great for cleaning your driveways but not so hot for cleaning your engine bay. Driveways are just concrete, you cannot hurt them.

“But under the hood of your car, there’s all kinds of electronics, computer-driven modules, you can ruin them with water

“Especially high-pressure water. It’ll get into electrical connections, it could destroy your alternator, it can get on your computer sensors.

“Then you’re going to have one heck of a time figuring out what’s wrong. See how dirty my engine is, it runs perfectly fine.”

According to FindandFundMyCar, owners may be forced to pay a staggering £500 to repair internal engine water damage.

Carwow said motorists may be forced to cough up “thousands of pounds” if water had damaged the engine or the electrical system.

Motoring experts at Halfords revealed drivers can clean their engine bats but should take extra precautions

Halfords explained: “After you’ve cleaned the surrounding areas, it’s time to move onto the engine itself. Use your cleaning wipes to remove any oil or grease.

“Again, you may need to use the toothbrush or pipe cleaners to get into any tight areas. Use a microfibre cloth to dry everything off. Do not use a hose pipe on the engine as this could cause damage.”

Kilmer reassured motorists they could salvage the engine after spraying it with water as long as they acted quickly.

He added: “What you want to do is get yourself a hair dryer, unclip all the electrical connections, dry them with a hairdryer and if you have a really old car that has spark plug wires on it, take them off and air dry all of them.

“Often the problem will go away if you get to where the moisture is.”

At BMW Group Malaysia’s House of Forwardism event happening from September 23-24, 2023 near Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur, visitors can get up close and personal with the BMW i7, which was officially launched here back in June this year. The i7 is available in a sole xDrive60 M Sport variant that retails for RM707,250 on-the-road without insurance.

This price is with a standard two-year warranty, and if you want the extended warranty and service package, it goes up to RM729,800. These prices factor in the ongoing incentives provided by the government, and a good number of customers have already taken deliveries, with 158 units registered on the road as of August 31, 2023 according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia’s data.gov.my portal.

BMW Group Malaysia revealed today that it has delivered over 1,600 units of BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad electric vehicles (EVs) in just eight months this year. With these figures, the i7 effectively makes up nearly 10% of all EVs sold by the company in 2023.

With the i7, you’re getting an EV that will provide up to 625 km of range following the WLTP standard and a dual-motor setup capable of getting the over-2.5-tonne luxury limousine from 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds on its way to electronically limited top speed of 240 km/h. The specs are as follows:

• Electric motors output: 544 PS (536 hp or 400 kW) and 745 Nm
• 0-100 km/h time: 4.7 seconds
• Top speed: 240 km/h
• Battery capacity: 105.7 kWh gross (101.7 kWh net)
• Range (WLTP): 625 km
• AC charging: 11 kW Type 2; 0-100% in 9.5 hours
• DC charging: 195 kW CCS2; 10-80% in 34 minutes

The i7 we get here comes standard with two-axle adaptive air suspension and Integral Active Steering, the latter allowing the rear wheels to turn up to 3.5 degrees. Other items in the kit list include the M Sport exterior package with more aggressive bumpers front and rear, accompanied by a set of 21-inch M Aerodynamic style 909 M alloy wheels in a multi-colour Jet Black finish.

There are also automatic soft-close doors, a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof as well as Iconic Glow illumination for the kidney grille as well as crystal headlamps with adaptive LED technology and High-beam Assistant.

The interior upholstery is BMW Individual Merino leather paired with Fineline black fine-wood and M signature high-gloss metal effect trim, Crafted Clarity crystal glass applications and an anthracite headliner. Other appointments are the glitzy backlit BMW Interaction Bar, an M leather steering wheel and Executive Lounge seating with a dedicated rear console, heel rest, massage function and lumbar support.

Passengers will also get to enjoy creature comforts such as a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, while a wireless phone charger, four-zone climate control, comprehensive ambient lighting, roller sunblinds as well as and powered, ventilated and heated comfort seats (with ventilation). The Rear-seat Entertainment Professional package is also included, bringing with it the 31.3-inch BMW Theatre Screen that rear passengers can use to consume content on the move.

As for infotainment, the i7 gets the BMW Live Cockpit Plus system with the Curved Display (12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch centre touchscreen) and BMW Operating System 8. The system includes Connected Package Professional (wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support), My Modes and IconicSounds Electric on top of a multitude of media and connectivity features.

Last but not least, the Driving Assistant Professional package includes front and rear autonomous emergency braking, Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Front/Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, Exit Warning, Active Cruise Control with stop & go function, Speed Limit Info with Automatic Speed Limit Assist and Evasion Assistant.

More driver assistance systems come in the form of Parking Assistant Plus that provides features such as Reversing Assistant, Active Park Distance Control, Lateral Parking Aid and a surround view camera.

The i7’s colour palette is vast, with no-cost options being Oxide Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Mineral White, Sophisto Grey, Aventurine Red and Black Sapphire. For an extra RM6,300, you can have two BMW Individual hues, namely Tanzanite Blue and Dravit Grey.

If a two-tone look is what you’re looking for, it’ll set you back an additional RM50,000 for one of eight options from BMW Individual. The first four themes pair a Black Sapphire top half with a bottom that is either in Oxide Grey, Aventurine Red, Tanzanite Blue or Dravit Grey. As for the remaining options, it is a Oxide Grey upper in combination with a lower half in either Black Sapphire, Aventurine Red, Tanzanite Blue or Dravit Grey.

Meanwhile, the Merino leather comes in Black, White, Amarone (a deep red) or Tartufo (a caramel-like colour). Each i7 comes with a public charging AC cable, roadside assistance, BMW Service Online and the BMW Group Loyalty+ Mobile App – BMW Privileges Card.

Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAASB), the official Citroen and DS aftersales provider in Malaysia, has issued a recall for vehicles from both brands due to potentially faulty Takata airbags. This is part of a greater global recall and affects several models here, namely the C3, C4, DS3, DS4 and DS5 produced from 2009 to 2017.

The company is strongly urging owners to bring affected vehicles in for the necessary parts replacement, which will be carried out free of charge. It added that it has made many attempts to inform customers with affected vehicles via letters, courier deliveries, emails, text messages and phone calls.

If you haven’t been contacted and do own any of the models mentioned above, you can call up the company’s customer relationship management helpline at 03-7627 8818 and provide your vehicle’s VIN number. Alternatively, you can also drop an email at [email protected] for verification.

According to BAASB, the affected vehicles are equipped with Takata airbag inflators with chemical properties that may deteriorate over time, particularly when exposed to hot, humid climates. This may cause the inflators to rupture on deployment, scattering debris capable of causing serious injury or death. Fatality cases have been confirmed due to this issue, so immediate action from owners is required.

The Foton iBlue is available for purchase in Malaysia through Berjaya China Motor (BCM), with two versions offered to customers. The first is a panel van that retails for RM200,035 on-the-road without insurance, while the semi-panel version is RM207,035.

Also known as the View iBlue or iBlue V6 in certain markets, the iBlue is a fully electric van that has a rear cargo space of up to 7.1 cubic metres. The iBlue’s dimensions are as follows:

• Length: 5,320 mm

• Height: 1,990 mm
• Wheelbase: 3,050 mm
• Rear cargo area length: 3,480 mm
• Rear cargo area width: 1,540 mm

The specifications are as follows:

• Range: 195 km (WLTP), 235 km (NEDC)

Noted features include ABS with EBD, front brake discs and rear drum brakes as well as a rear window defroster. BCM also includes a vehicle telematics system with a three-year subscription (worth RM3,000), a 7 kW AC wall charger with installation and a two-year warranty (worth RM4,000) and RM1,000 worth of public charging credit valid for one year with each purchase.

The standard warranty is six years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first.

The Foton iBlue EV is already being used by Pos Malaysia for last-mile deliveries alongside the DFSK EC35 EV van and Modenas MEV-1, Oos Malaysia took delivery of 50 units of the Modenas electric motorcycle last month.

BMW Group Malaysia has announced its electric vehicle sales volume for the first eight months of 2023, and the group of brands comprised of BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad has reached sales of more than 1,600 units so far this year, which has exceeded its tally of 1,557 units sold in 2022.

Sales data for BMW EVs in Malaysia as compiled by data.gov.my, as of August 31, show that the flagship of the range, the i7 has accumulated 150 sales so far this year, and 158 units since its start of sale in Malaysia. meanwhile, the iX has recorded 880 sales so far this year, and 1,856 units since it was launched in the country.

For the iX3, 108 units of the EV were sold in Malaysia this year, and 381 units were sold since the model was introduced locally. The BMW iX1, which was launched in May this year, saw 291 units sold so far.

BMW Group Malaysia has also introduced an unlimited EV charging package with ChargEV, JomCharge and Gentari for owners of BMW and MINI EVs in Malaysia. This will be for the first 200 customers who register their BMW and MINI EVs from October 1 until December 31.

This will entitle them to purchase the EV charging package for RM2,400 for BMW owners (RM1,800 for MINI owners) from either of the three participating providers, and these packages offer unlimited charging at all ChargEV, JomCharge and ChargEV facilities nationwide for 12 months from date of activation. This will be valid only for the vehicle registered to the package.

Through partnerships between BMW Group Malaysia and local charging solution provders as well as through the brand’s network of authorised dealers and partner venues throughout Malaysia, BMW and MINI owners have access to over 1,000 charging points nationwide, according to the company.

Now coming in racing team colours is the 2023 Aprilia SR GT Replica in 125 cc and 200 cc versions. For Malaysia, the Aprilia SR GT 200 is priced at RM19,900 while the “Sport” variant is tagged at RM20,900.

As the name suggests, the SR GT Replica comes clad in Aprilia Racing team colours resembling the Aprilia RS-GP raced in MotoGP World Championship by Aleix Espargaró and Maverick Viñales. The overall scheme is laid out in a base of matte black with the same red and purple graphics used by the racing team.

Emphasising the “sport” side of scooter riding, the SR GT Replica is fitted with tyres in a street tread design instead of the knobby adventure style tyres of the usual SR GT. Similarly, in keeping with the sporty nature of the SR GT Replica, the passenger grab handles are finished in matt black while racing numbers for Espargaro and Vinales are provided for user customisation.

Power comes from a 174 cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder i-Get mill with four-valves and SOHC, fed by EFI. Power for the SR GT is claimed to be 17.4 hp at 8,500 rpm and 16.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm, getting to the ground via CVT gearbox and belt drive.

Braking is done with single hydraulic discs front and rear, with the 14-inch front wheel stopped by a 260 mm diameter disc, the 13-inch rear wheel equipped with a 220 mm disc. Tyre sizing is 110/80 front and 130/70 rear, with front-wheel ABS as standard equipment.

Honda Malaysia (HMSB) has announced that nearly 7,300 bookings have been received for the 2023 Honda WR-V as of September 6, just under two months after the small SUV made its local debut. Deliveries now stand at close to 3,300 units, 1,100 units up from the 2,200 units that had been delivered by August.

The WR-V is offered in four variants, namely the S, E, V and RS, all of which are powered by a 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated DOHC i-VTEC engine offering 121 PS and 145 Nm, with the mill mated to a CVT. Pricing ranges from RM89,900 to RM107,900 on-the-road without insurance.

The company revealed that as of September, the bulk of registrations have been made up of the RS variant, with 62% of the deliveries being of the top-spec version. The next most popular variant is the V, with 19% of deliveries being for it. Registrations of the E presently make up 13% of the delivery volume, with the base S accounting for the remaining 6%.

HMSB also gave a breakdown of the popularity of the five exterior colours, namely Ignite Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Stellar Diamond Pearl, Meteoroid Grey Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl, based on the booking trend among customers.

It’s decidedly close between Meteoroid Grey Metallic (25%) and Ignite Red Metallic (24%), but Stellar Diamond Pearl is a surprising third, with 22% of bookings being for the new colour, edging it ahead of Platinum White Pearl (19%), with Crystal Black Pearl (10%) rounding off things.

According to the company, the waiting period for the WR-V currently stands at around two months, though this is dependent on variant and colour choices, with that for Stellar Diamond Pearl being a bit longer.
